Manchester City Centre ShoppingManchester is highly rated for shopping and is amongst the best cities in Great Britain for high street stores, designer brands and anything else you care to mention. Whether you are after clothes, food, household items or music. However, as one of the country's trendiest and musically talented cities, fashion and music should be at the top of your list. The city has hundreds of high street names, gigantic department stores and an enormous indoor shopping centre.
On Deansgate is Kendals (0161 832 3414). This is the original department store! For menswear just head for the Annexe on the bottom floor. Women have a little more choice here with all the top names under one roof and on two floors. Rest assured if it is designer labels you seek, Kendals is definitely the place to go. Selfridges (08708 377 377) has huge designer areas for men and women with all the latest designers and some great expensive gear. There is a fantastic food hall located on the basement floor at Selfridges too. Adjacent to Selfridges is the chic, Harvey Nichols that is deceptively large and accommodates three floors including a bar and restaurant. The clothes here are a little more exclusive and extremely desirable. The Arndale Centre (0161 833 9851) has been around for a fair few years now and a mixture of shops from Dixons to Burtons. It is currently undergoing a massive refurbishment so that it can compete with the smarter and bigger neighbours.
The Manchester Trafford Centre (0161 629 1234) is located outside of the City Centre and is roughly 15 - 20 minutes drive away. This is one of the UK's largest indoor shopping centres and hosts many of the big high street names and designer shops such as a Debenhams department store, BHS and French Connection. It is well worth a visit but be sure to give it a full day! Don't worry about being hungry here either. There is an impressive food court that looks like the deck of an ocean liner with a huge entertainment screen. Just in case you don't like shopping at the Trafford Centre, there is a 20 screen cinema, ten pin bowling alley and Namco Station gaming arcade to keep you entertained. |
