Manchester Nightlife

The nightlife in Manchester's is forever getting better. With somewhere near 500 city centre bars, there is a very wide choice. Manchester is practically divided between four separate bar areas. At the end of Deansgate lies a line of clubs and bars ranging from Brannigans, Squares, Life Bar, Bar 38, Teasers, True nightclub and Walkabout Bar. Located in a row of arches and just around the corner on Deansgate Locks are six bars ranging from Loaf and Baa Bar to the Fat Cat Café. There is also a comedy club just to make things more interesting.

Bar 38 Manchester

Deansgate is great for a pub crawl and it is where you will find the Hog's Head, Bar Med, celebrity hangout The Living Room and Wetherspoon's "Moon-Under-the-Water" amongst other café bars.

Just on the other side of the Arndale Centre, you will find other popular night-spots in the Millennium Quarter which is a mix of modern, preserved and refurbished buildings and home to a good portion of Manchester's shopping and nightlife. The Printworks (0161 385 8000) is fundamentally an enormous building with bars and restaurants housed inside and the first time you visit it has a fairly surreal feel. Inside you will find Waxy O Connors, The Hard Rock Café, Henry's, Wetherspoons, the deceptively massive Lucid (0161 860 0058) with it's club and pool hall, Norwegian Blue (0161 839 1451) and the huge Tiger Tiger (0161 385 8080) - a fantastic place to finish off your night out. (Four floors, numerous bars and a good dance club hidden away on the top floor). Located right behind the Printworks is The Hard Rock Casino and as long as you join 24-hours before entry, you can lose your money in rock style and comfort.

Traditional pubs in Manchester

The fourth big nightlife spot in Manchester is the famous 'Gay Village' with lots of bars and clubs for a "different" night out. Publicity about unwanted hen parties here has probably made this one of the country's top hen party venues! Some bars and clubs have a strict door policy now and won't allow entrance to large groups of girls.

As well as some very trendy bars and clubs, Manchester has also kept in touch with the more traditional establishment. The Peveril of the Peak pub is just behind the GMEX and has possibly the strangest exterior décor of any pub in the UK. Also, The Old Wellington and Sinclair's Oyster Bar will take you into a time-warp, next to the Triangle in the city centre. Great to sit outside on a hot summers day and relax with a cool beer or two.
