Llangollen HotelsIf you're fortunate enough to have booked in advance, the Llangollen locality offers many hospitable and charming guesthouses and hotels. However, as these are somewhat limited, the chance of getting accommodation anywhere near the centre of Llangollen during the International Eisteddfod is not good. The surrounding towns and villages are generally a good bet although these can fill up especially near to the festival start.
Just outside Llangollen is the well presented 19th century Wild Pheasant Hotel (01978 860629), so called due to the many pheasants that wander round in the hotel's 17 acres of pasture land. Still privately owned, the hotel commands good views over the Vale of Llangollen and Castell Dinas Bran. It offers all the comforts expected of a modern hotel and by prior arrangement you can even have a go at archery and clay pigeon shooting. Ty'n-y-Wern Country Hotel (01978 860252) is a privately owned, ex-farmhouse. Tastefully decorated and with great views of Dinas Bran, the hotel has been extensively refurbished and is rated at four stars by the Wales Tourist Board. Situated on the main A5 this friendly hotel is ideal for people travelling the old Holyhead to London road.
Just off the main road into Llangollen from Wrexham, the Bryn Howel Hotel (01978 860331) is set in well-presented grounds and offers modern hotel facilities. The Bryn Howel is just five-minutes drive from the town centre and is under new ownership (2005). Set along side the canal, the new owners have introduced a very unique idea known as the Floaty Boaty which can be hired to travel along the canal complete with a 3-course meal. In addition to the new Floaty Boaty, the hotel has seen some refurbishment to bring back its traditional and quality feel. Famous names to have stayed here include Harrison Ford and Luciano Pavarotti.
The Chain Bridge Hotel (01978 860215) is perched on the banks of the River Dee and right between the river and canal but this doesn't mean that you have to be a good swimmer to stay here. Named because of the seemingly suicidal chain bridge which links the hotel to the opposite river bank and Berwyn station, this pleasant hotel offers a charm that only the unique location can give and is only a few minutes drive from the town centre. We're still not sure where the car park is though! The Hand Hotel (01691 773472) is located in nearby Chirk and although a large wood-chip processing plant dwarfs this town, this shouldn't put you off. In the heart of the town, the Hand Hotel has both a warm and comfortable atmosphere and is only a ten-minute drive from Llangollen. It's also just opposite a great Indian restaurant for that added bonus! |
