Liverpool museums and galleries

Staying with a cultured theme, Liverpool has some fantastic architecture and this includes two magnificent Cathedrals built in the 20th century. Liverpool Cathedral (0151 709 6271) is the largest Anglican Cathedral in Europe and has the largest church organ in the world along with the heaviest ringing peal of bells in the world. Linked by a street called Hope is the Metropolitan Cathedral (0151 709 9222). This has the world's largest stained glass window housed in the Lantern Tower of the perfectly circular nave above the crypt.

For people who require some sport in their itinerary, football is more of a religion in this city with everyone divided between the red of Liverpool FC (0151 263 2361) and the blue of Everton Football Club (0151 330 2300). Both are Premiership clubs and most Saturdays and sometimes midweek, either club will be packed with up to 40,000 screaming fans - an atmosphere and experience not to be missed. Aintree Racecourse (0151 523 2600) hosts the Grand National every year at the beginning of April and as Britain's biggest horse race it's never a dull day.
