Castle Hotel

Conwy Hotels & Accommodation

The Castle Hotel, Conwy (01492 582800) was an old coaching inn and boasts a historic location. It is an exceptional establishment within the medieval walled town of Conwy. The Castle Hotel is not just renowned for the fabulous hotel, but for the restaurant as well which uses local Welsh produce for fine dining and has award-winning cuisine. Popular with American tourists, a woman was once overheard in the restaurant to say 'If you come to visit the Castle, you have to stay in The Castle Hotel'.

Castle Hotel Conwy with award winning ciusine, carved wooden four poster bed and two person jacuzzi bath

The hotel has 29 'character' bedrooms and suites one of which even boast a 16th century ornately carved wooden four-poster bed that Charles I has allegedly slept in. It is not alleged however, whether Charles had a good nights sleep! Other famous names that have stayed here include William Wordsworth, Thomas Telford, Samuel Johnson and Charlotte Bronte. The hotel is currently enjoying a new lease of life thanks to a major upgrade and beautiful refurbishment which, will be completed in 2005. This affords today's travellers all the modern day facilities they expect but with comfort and tradition that a family owned hotel can provide. The Caer Rhun Suite even has a two-person Jacuzzi bath!

Bearing in mind the tradition that most businesses in Conwy have to be named after its most famous landmark, the Castlebank Hotel (01492 593888) does not disappoint. It has been recently refurbished, is clean, comfortable, near the centre of town and reasonably priced. The Castlebank Hotel offers nine ensuite bedrooms, residents lounge and a licensed bar with log fire. What more can you ask from a grade II listed building?
