Chester places to visitA must for any visitor is to walk around the Roman walls where you will get a very good look at the city and its history. Certain spots along the walls give information on the Roman past and you can really learn a thing or two about the city. Get on the course at Chester Races (01244 304600) with a picnic and take your own drinks or dress up and celebrate in the county stand (tickets required).
If you're feeling nautical, River Cruises leave regularly from outside the Old Orleans pub and if you want to get even closer, rowing and motor boats can be hired for as little as 15 minutes. The tour busses also leave from here and if you have a couple of hours are well worth the money. Chester Zoo (01244 380280) is just a short journey from the city and is the largest in the UK with over 7000 animals. It is set in 110 acres of award-winning zoological gardens. The zoo has a very comprehensive mix of mammals, reptiles, birds and marine life including Miniature Monkeys, Black Rhinos, Lions, Tigers, Komodo Dragons, Red Pandas and herd of Asian Elephants. The zoo makes for a great day out whether or not you have kids and is open every day of the year except Christmas. |
