Chester Tourism

Chester City

Known as the 'Walled City', Chester was once a Roman fortress. The city was constructed at border with Wales to keep out the Celts. Today it is one of the best preserved Roman cities in the UK. Most of the original walls have survived the centuries and they now provide a well-known city walk that offers great views of the local architecture. This includes the famous Roo Dee racecourse. You can even view the current excavations at the Chester Amphitheatre which hopes to reveal the secrets behind this exiting structure.

Chester Clock set amongst historic architecture and modern shops

Chester is one of the most visited cities in the north west and manages an astounding 6 million visitors every year. The hotel network is equally impressive with over 100 hotels and guest houses situated either in or close to the city centre. Cobbled streets, the famous clock, unique two tier shopping rows, historic architecture and cathedral delivers a very olde world atmosphere to Chester and yet its contemporary shopping outlets and restaurants are blended perfectly so as not to spoil the look. All this makes certain that Chester is ready to make your stay both comfortable and memorable.
